Vincent M. "Jimmy" Conti

NIAGARA FALLS — Vincent M. "Jimmy" Conti, 88, of Town of Niagara, formerly of 15th Street, Niagara Falls, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 4, 2012 in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, after a brief illness. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY on September 14, 1923 to the late Joseph and Elena (DiGiovine) Conti. A lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, Vincent was a graduate of Trott Vocational High School. During WWII Mr. Conti served as a gunner's mate on the USS Darby in the South Pacific. After returning from the war he married the former Mary Frino on June 7, 1947 in St. Joseph's Church. She died July 8, 2006. Over the years Mr. Conti worked at the International Paper Mill for approximately 20 years, until their closing. In 1981 he went to work as a plumber for the New York State Parks, retiring in 1991. During that time, for approximately 15 years, he owned and operated Conti's Buttercup Dairy. Vince was an avid sportsman and coached his sons in Midtown Little League. His pastimes included gardening and wine making, and will always be remembered for all the special species of garlic that he grew. He also enjoyed traveling to the garlic festivals, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by three grandchildren, Dana Conti, Anthony V. Conti II and Chrissy Conti; his daughter-in-law, Cheryl Conti, all of Niagara Falls, NY; two brothers, Umberto "Chuck" (late Josephine) Conti of Niagara Falls, Anthony (Etta) Conti of Long Island; a brother-in-law, John Raymond; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Conti and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Conti was predeceased by his parents; his wife of 60 years, the late Mary (Frino) Conti; his twin sons, the late Anthony and Carlo Conti; two sisters, the late Anita Raymond, late Jennie (Walter) Keese; and two brothers, the late Carlo Conti and the late Victor Conti.

The family will be present to receive friends Tuesday 4-8 PM at the SPALLINO-AMIGONE FUNERAL HOME, 1300 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family of Jesus, Mary & Joseph Parish at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 27th & Independence Ave., Niagara Falls, NY, at 10:00 AM. Rev. Duane R. Klizek officiating. (Please assemble at church.) Entombment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Chapel Mausoleum, Lewiston, NY. Friends invited. Flowers gratefully declined. If desired, memorials may be made in Vince's memory to Leukemia Society or Our Lady of Fatima Shrine, 1023 Swann Rd., P.O. Box 167, Youngstown, NY 14174.
