Alice Emma Hicks Moir Diez

BURR RIDGE, IL — Alice Emma Hicks Moir Diez was born on July 7, 1914 in Moulton Twp., Ontario, Canada, the daughter of John William and Myrtle (Taylor) Hicks.

Before Alice's marriage in 1943 to Stanley Elmer Moir of Niagara Falls, NY, she was a secretary for Oneida Silver in Niagara Falls, Ontario. They raised their five children in their home in the LaSalle section of Niagara Falls. After Elmer's death in 1954, Alice created a dressmaking business so that she could support her young family and still be at home with them. Alice was an active member of Bacon Memorial Presbyterian Church and supported her children's participation in scouts, church, and local Triangle and DeMolay. She was always there to give a ride, bake a cake, or give advice. Her children were her life. The family spent free-time together, going to Canada to visit relatives or to Long Beach to swim.

In July 1966, Alice married Russell Diez and the family moved to Youngstown, NY, where she worked alongside Russell on their farm. She was a Deacon in the Youngstown Presbyterian Church. She was widowed, again, in 1976. Alice lived the past 15 years at King Bruwaert House in Burr Ridge, IL. Alice was strong, determined, creative and full of life. She could make any small event into an adventure. Her faith got her through many rough times, and friends knew they could always turn to her. She will be missed by us all.

Alice was 98 years old at the time of her death. Mrs. Diez is survived by her children, Gerald (Nancy Stark) Moir, Lawrence (Barbara Marsh) Moir, William (Kathy Leonard) Moir, Murnie (Carl) Baker; step-children, Margaret Diez, Sarah Diez Lockhart, Nancy Diez Orsi, and Ralph Dietz. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by Stanley Elmer Moir and Russell Diez; her siblings, William Hicks, Jesse (Jim) Hicks, Ruth Hicks Wilson; and her daughter, Barbara Ann.

Interment of ashes will be at Riverdale Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY, this summer.
