Thomas J. Bateman, Jr.

Thomas J. Bateman, Jr., January 25, 2013, born on April 28, 1943 in Niagara Falls. He was a son of the late Thomas J., Sr. and Annie M. (Andersen) Bateman.
A 1961 graduate of Wilson High School he sang in the choir and loved music. As a Boy Scout he and two others had received an award for saving a drowning boy. Tom entered the US Navy in 1961 and was discharged in 1967. He then went to work at Harrison's as a welder from 1967 to 1981. He owned and operated T & R Corner Store from 1980 to 2006. An Exempt Member of the Wilson Fire Company #1, he was a trustee and chairman of the trustees, he was also a member of American Legion Post 863. Tom served the Village of Wilson as Trustee from 1998 to 2001 and as Village Mayor from 2001 to 2009. A member of St. John's Episcopal Church and member of the Allegro Club. Tom loved his family, loved "his Village", and was a friend to all. Known to many as "Grampy", he loved the NY Yankees and driving his motor home down South for the winter. He met Lois Baker in 1984 and they were married on March 16, 1985 at St. John's Episcopal Church.
Surviving him besides his wife, Lois (Baker) Bateman; are four daughters, Cheryl (Carl) Hill of Wilson, Renee (Kyle Emert) Bateman of Plainsboro, NJ, Denise (Robert) Failla of Wilson, Jerilyn (John) Carney of Wilson; and a son, Mark (Linda) Hillman of Cartersville, GA; a brother, Richard (Pamela) Bateman of Wilson; nine grandchildren, Brandi (Sean) Furey, Andrew Hill, Nicholas Failla, Jenna Simanovsky, Kristopher Hillman, David Simanovsky, John Carney III, Jared Carney, and Bryeanna Hillman; three great-grandchildren, Kiarra, Rhiannon and Peighton Furey. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Hamilton and Clark Funeral Home, 270 Young Street, Wilson on Sunday from 7-9 PM and on Monday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. Funeral Services will be on Tuesday at 10 AM in St. John's Episcopal Church, 431 Lake Street, Wilson, followed by burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, American Heart Association, or American Diabetes Association.
