Edward L. Sprankle

NIAGARA FALLS — Edward L. Sprankle, a longtime resident of Niagara Falls, passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2013 in Kentucky, where he resided since April of 2012.

Born in Punxsutawney, PA on May 27, 1928, Edward was the son of Paul and Irene Clare (Moore) Sprankle. Growing up on the family dairy farm, he attended schools in Pennsylvania. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Colorado and Alaska. Following his honorable discharge, he was employed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, DC from 1948 until 1957. Moving to Niagara Falls in 1959, he began employment with Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, retiring in 1993.

He was an avid sports fan rooting for home teams, Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres. In his younger years, he enjoyed camping, hunting and used his beautiful singing voice as a soloist at church and at weddings.

Survivors include his wife, Eileen (Rothman) Sprankle; children, Kayrene Demster (Alan) of Niagara Falls; Kenneth Sprankle (Beth) of Roanoke, VA; Beverly Maines (Rev. Ronald) of Niagara Falls; stepchildren, Patrick, Joseph, Ronald, Brian, Roberta, Jeffrey and Anne; his sister, Nancy Fleming of Richmond, VA; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Ruth Brooks; two stepchildren, Rose and James; and brothers, George and Leo Sprankle.

Friends may call Tuesday from 4 PM until 7 PM in the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls, where funeral services will be held at 7 PM. The interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Memorials may be made to Forestview Church of God, 1250 Saunders Settlement Road, Niagara Falls, NY 14305; or to Kindred Nursing and Rehabilitation, 853 Lexington Road, Harrodsburg, KY 40330.
