Maria Borger

NEW YORK CITY — Maria C. Borger, age 70, formerly of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on Friday, October 5, 2012, at Columbia University Medical Center, New York City. Maria (also known as Mary) was born March 6, 1942 in Niagara Falls, NY, the daughter of Matilda Shadder (now DiNoto) and William Borger.

She is survived by her mother; sister, Kathleen; two sons, John Meyers of Storrs, CT and Larry Meyers of New York, NY; and five grandchildren, John, William, Ciana, Orla and Liam. Her niece, Teresa Livingston, lives in Niagara Falls. She was predeceased by her brother, Douglas Borger.

Maria attended local schools and graduated from LaSalle High School (Class of 1960), and earned a B.A. at California State University-Fullerton and a graduate degree at Columbia     University, Teachers College. She went on to become a university lecturer in Iran, Romania   (Fulbright Lecturer); Hungary, Germany, Oman, Bahrain and Qatar, before returning to New York in 2009.

A memorial service was held at the Church of the Good Shepherd in New York City on October 13, 2012. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to Niagara University to support the Maria C. Borger Memorial Study Abroad Scholarship Fund. Gifts can be mailed to Niagara University, Box 2008, Niagara University, NY 14109.
