Elizabeth A. "Betsy" Oliphant

LEWISTON — Elizabeth A. "Betsy" Oliphant, age 83, of Ransomville, died Sunday, October 14, 2012 in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Residence in Lewiston, after a lengthy illness.

Betsy was born January 25, 1929 in Niagara Falls, NY, the daughter of the late Leslie E. and Annie (Hailey) Ross. She grew up in Lewiston and was a graduate of the Lewiston Union School and Lewiston High School. She then attended Kelley Business Institute completing her stenographic courses. For a time Betsy worked for Harper Electric Furnace Corp. and the Niagara Falls Power Company. She married Charles Oliphant on July 28, 1951.

Betsy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston. She enjoyed volunteering at Mount St. Mary's Hospital, reading, gardening and antiquing. Most of all she loved being with her family and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Charles; her sons, Mark (Kathy), Rick (Helga), Robert and Bruce (Stephanie) Oliphant; her grandchildren, Aaron, Sara, Eric (Nicole), Bryan (Hailey), Jennifer, Thomas, Charlie, Raymond and Sydney; and a great-grandson, Ronin. She was predeceased by a grandson, Benjamin Oliphant; a sister, Janet Convery; and two brothers, John and Leslie Ross.

Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston, on Saturday, October 20, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Memorial services will begin at 2:00 PM in the funeral home, with the Rev. Robert Bellingham officiating. Interment will follow in Dickersonville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lewiston Volunteer Fire Co. #1 Ambulance Fund, 145 N. 6th St., P.O.
