Thomas P. Nocera, 65, of Ransomville, NY and Winter Haven, FL, passed away suddenly, Sunday, August 29, 2010 in Newfane Intercommunity Hospital. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY, on December 17, 1944 to Marian L. (nee Smith) and John Nocera. A Niagara Falls native he was a graduate of Niagara Falls High School. He also attended Trott Vocational and NCCC. On August 21, 1965, Thomas Nocera married the former Maria A. Corsano in St. Joseph Church.
For over 35 years Mr. Nocera worked as an Instrumental Supervisor at Occidental Chemical Company, until his retirement in 2000. After his retirement from Occidental he worked as a starter at Willowbrook and Niagara Falls Country Clubs. An avid sportsman he enjoyed all sports, especially baseball, football, basketball and hockey. Mr. Nocera was a member for over 30 years and served as president of the Niagara Falls Chapter of the NYS Baseball Umpire’s Association, a member of the local and state football and basketball officials. For over 20 years he was the time keeper for the Niagara University men’s and women’s basketball and hockey games. Mr. Nocera was also a member of the Gill Creek Men’s Club and was an advisor for the BSA Explorer program, and was enshrined in the Niagara Falls High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Maria A. (nee Corsano) Nocera; a daughter, Dana (Joseph) Battaglia of Buffalo, NY; a son, Thomas D. (Beth) Nocera of West Seneca, NY; nine grandchildren, Quinton, Karmin, Meaghan, Gabriel, Nicholas, Jamie, Skylar, Brand and Abigail; one brother, Charles (Karen) Nocera of Ithaca, NY; one sister, Joanne (Steven) Johnson of Madison, AL; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many dear friends.
The family will be present to receive friends Thursday and Friday 5:00 to 9:00 PM at the SPALLINO-AMIGONE FUNERAL HOME, 1300 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY, where funeral services will be held Friday evening at 8:00 PM. Friends invited. Private burial will be held in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY.
