Agnes M. Olson

NIAGARA FALLS —

Agnes M. Olson, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on Tuesday, November 6, 2012, in Niagara Hospice House, Lockport, NY. She was born in DuBois, PA, on June 12, 1928, a daughter of the late Alexander and Anna (Ziemba) Danielson.
Mrs. Olson was raised in orphanages from age 6 to 12, then moved to Buffalo, NY, living with her relatives and attended school there. She worked as a seamstress, sales clerk, cashier and as a quality control technician. During the Korean War, she was a volunteer plane-spotter atop Buffalo's City Hall. Agnes married Eugene F. Olson on July 4, 1953 in St. Boniface Church in Buffalo. They moved to Niagara Falls in 1960. Together, they raised four sons. She was a Cub Scout den mother.
After the children had grown, she worked as a market cashier. Then, for many years, she was a home care aide to elderly patients with whom she was deeply attached. She made her house a home with artful decorations for every season and holiday. Houseplants thrived with expert care, she was a talented oil painter of scenery and still life, but her main pastime was reading romantic novels and science fiction. She enjoyed watching television and jigsaw puzzles. Her pets included dogs, cats, birds and fishes. She earned a reputation for treating injured wild birds. Birds flocked to her feeder.
Agnes was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church for decades. Prayer, meditation and bible readings were an important part of her day. She had a deep abiding faith and trust in God. Family and friends admired her quiet, kind and generous ways. She had a great sense of humor and a hearty laugh.
In addition to her husband, Gene; she is survived by four sons, James (Ellen) Olson of Easton, PA,  Alan (late Holly) Olson and Gregory (Joanne) Olson, both of Niagara Falls, NY and Dr. John Olson of  Valley Village, CA; four grandchildren, Nicholas, Christopher, Suni and Traci; six great-grandchildren, Christopher, Shelby, Corey, Dylan, Mylee and Haylee.
The family will be present on Friday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM, at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 1124 Ontario Avenue, NIAGARA FALLS, NY. Friends are invited to attend A Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday at 10:00 AM, at Holy Family of Jesus, Mary & Joseph Parish, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Site, 27th and Independence Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY, with the Rev.
