Robert K. Kumm, 61, of Grand Island, NY, passed away, suddenly, on Thursday, January 24, 2013 in Kenmore Mercy Hospital, following a brief illness. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of Ruth (Colquhoun) Kumm of Niagara Falls, NY and the late Elmer Kumm.
A lifelong resident of the Niagara Falls area, Bob attended local schools and graduated from the former LaSalle Senior High School in 1969. He served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Truckee from 1970 until his honorable discharge in 1974. On August 4, 1978, he married Deborah (Gallo) Kumm in Niagara Falls, NY. For over 20 years, he was employed at the Niagara Falls Waste Water Treatment Plant, and retired on his birthday in 2007. Bob was an avid sports fan and golfer. He also enjoyed history, crossword puzzles, music and spending time in his man cave. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #1142 in Niagara Falls. Bob loved taking walks with his wife near their new home on Grand Island. He was especially proud of his daughter, Jessica, and all of her accomplishments. Above all, he enjoyed watching and spending time with his grandson, Dylan.
In addition to his wife of 34 years, and his mother, he is survived by his daughter, Jessica M. (Daniel) Shvimer of Grand Island, NY; his grandson, Dylan Shvimer; two sisters, Joyce (Frank) Grenga and Joanne Kumm, both of Niagara Falls, NY; and one brother, Richard (Karen) Kumm of Niagara Falls, NY. He was the brother-in-law of Kathleen (James) Abbondanza of Lewiston, NY, Michael (Sandra) Gallo of North Tonawanda, NY, Janice (David) Reynolds and Janet (Stephen) Godzisz, all of Niagara Falls, NY. Bob is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and his cat, Emme Lou.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4-8 PM at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY, where funeral services will be held on Monday, January 28th, at 11:00 AM, followed by interment with military honors in Riverdale Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. If desired, a memorial offering may be made to a charity of one's choice.
