Clarence E. Bish, Jr., of Sanborn, NY, passed away on Friday, September 3, 2010, in Buffalo General Hospital. He was born in Mayport, PA on February 19, 1922, the son of the late Clarence E. and Leona B. (Coleman) Bish, Sr.
Clarence attended schools in Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and Trott Vocational. He served in the United States Army as a staff sergeant from December 1942 to November 1945, with General Patton's 3rd armored division. Being wounded twice, he was awarded the Purple Heart with an oak leaf cluster and was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery and heroism.
Clarence was employed initially at National Carbon and at E.I. DuPont for 33 years. He was a member of the Ransomville Free Methodist Church which he helped build, and was the caretaker of the Free Methodist Landmark Park for 10 years, which is located on Hoover Road. Clarence enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, golf and wood crafting. He also enjoyed attending NASCAR racing events and rode in the #24 car, which is sponsored by DuPont Co. at Loudon, NH.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Doris N. (Himes) Bish; one son, Donald (Cheryl) Bish of Sanborn; two daughters, Nancy (Mike) Reminder of Rochester, and Ruth Ann (Daren) Blandin of Berlin, MA; grandfather of Laura, Ryan, Greg, Kevin, Daniel, Ashley, Victoria, Connor and Katherine; great- grandfather of Isabelle, Hunter, Mallory, Evelyn, Petra and Naomi; four brothers, Darrell (Joyce), Gerald, John (Nancy) and Timothy (Peg) Bish; four sisters, Bernice (late Fred) Snyder, Joyce (Jack) Shankle, Deloris (Clark) Gahagen, Bonnie (late Richard) Umberhocker; brother-in-law of Dorothy Bish. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Clarence was the father of the late Catherine Bish-Manning; brother of the late Myron Bish and Betty (late Harold) Gruver.
The family will be present at the Ransomville Free Methodist Church, 3924 Ransomville Road, Ransomville, NY, on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM, where funeral services will be held on Monday at 1:00 PM, with the Rev. W.T. Lowery, Jr. officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made in his name to the Ransomville Free Methodist Church. Interment with Military Honors in Mt. View Cemetery, Pekin, NY.
