DAVID L. “TUBBS” MORT


David L. "Tubbs" Mort, 86, of South Plymouth, NY, passed away early Tuesday, January 27, 2009 in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.

The son of Cradock and Emma Ruth Lowery Mort, Dave was born in April of 1922 in Lily, PA. He grew up in the Niagara Falls area where he attended school and held jobs in several local factories before spending 20 years in the employ of the Schrack Oil Company, where he delivered oil and coal. At one time, he delivered the mail for Ocean County in Toms River, NJ, and had worked in one of the CC Camps in New York State. His working career was interrupted by his service to his country when he joined the U.S. Army in October of 1942. Dave served in the South Pacific until his honorable discharge in October of 1945. In Princeton, NJ, on August 4, 1978, Dave married Bonnie Van Nostrand.

In 1984, the Morts moved to South Plymouth. Dave enjoyed the area and his home and basically lived a quiet life. He liked going to church when it was in the area, and was a member of the First Church of Christian Science of Boston, MA.

Dave is survived by his wife, Bonnie Mort of South Plymouth; by his daughter, Dava Mort of Niagara Falls; his sister-in-law, Anita Aprile and husband, Norman of Nineveh, NY; and their children, Holly Aprile and Bonnie Williams. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Dave was predeceased by his son, David Mort; and by all of his brothers and sisters.

Funeral services for Dave will be held on Thursday, February 5th at 8:00 PM from the R. J. Fahy Funeral Home, Norwich, NY. The Rev. Betty New of the First Church of Christian Science in Oneonta will officiate. Interment with Military Rites will be at a later date in the South Plymouth Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the R. J. Fahy Funeral Home on Thursday from 7-8 PM.
