NICE: The lovely woman from Ransomville who sent us a message last week that she knew one of the people we’d mentioned losing from our Christmas Card list, and had in fact attended her services more than 150 miles away. We swapped some memories. Small world, Nick, you ought to be able to get ‘round it in maybe 45 minutes (but no tailgating.)

NAUGHTY: The household in North Buffalo with the holiday display which includes an inflatable cannon. We are not making this up. You better watch out ...

NICE: Artist Terry Klaaren and promoter Perry McGowan, for their joint efforts in transforming that mall wall eyesore on Baseline Road into a thing of beauty. It seems to keep growing, so beware the painted snowfall.

NAUGHTY: Both sides in the great parking-lot battle between 7-11 and Say Cheese on, of all places, Love Road. We’re not feelin’ the love here, as Say Cheese has now thrown up a fence to block 7-11 patrons from invading it’s “space.” Good fences make good neighbors (was that Robert Frost?), but sometimes they define bad ones. It discourages westbound shoppers and blocks access to the only mailbox in the neighborhood. Attention 7-11: If you need a blow-up cannon for additional security, we know where to get one.

NICE: All those Grand Island High Envision Clubbers who voluntarily staff the Salvation Army kettles at Tops. We took our turn Friday, and while joy prevails, it’s difficult duty over the long haul. They do their school proud.

NAUGHTY: BJ’s Wholesale. We stopped in to buy a gift card for an out-of-town member and were told that since we aren’t members, we’d either have to join, or pay a $115 surcharge to buy a $100 card for their own merchandise. As with the cannon at the crèche, we couldn’t make this up. Any merchant will tell you a large percentage of gift cards go unredeemed, so selling one is like finding money in the street. It’s more stupid than naughty, but still ...

NICE: Fahim Mojawalla at Island Ship Center. The attention he pays to our copying needs for a few farthings is remarkable and we always leave better informed than when we came in. You, Santa, know the importance of precise shipping, and we’d love to hear you guys swap some yarns.
