LOCKPORT

Falls quintet faces marijuana charges

Five Niagara Falls residents were charged with unlawful possession of marijuana at 1:30 a.m. Saturday after a traffic stop on Genesee Street.

The driver, Edward Z. Griffin Jr., 19, 1513 Ashland Ave., faces additional charges as an unlicensed driver, with two equipment violations and failure to signal. Police said there is an outstanding warrant for Griffin in Niagara Falls.

Jason U. Hunt, 21, 1542 Pierce Ave.; Delmon A. Myles, 19, 3015 20th St.; Valentino Scarbrough II, 19, 1921 Forest Ave. and DeQuan D. Brahm, 16, 1515 Whitney Ave. face marijuana charges.

A juvenile was released to his mother’s custody, police said.

According to the report, police detected an odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. Griffin told them the group was driving to a party.

Police found suspected marijuana under the seats and said it tested positive for the drug. They also reportedly found a digital scale with a white powdery substance. Several small plastic baggies were located on the floor.

Niagara Falls

• DWI: Joseph David DeSantis, 28, 7227 Witmer Road, North Tonawanda, was charged with DWI at 4:10 a.m. Saturday following an accident. Officers responded to a report of a hit and run accident at Niagara Falls Boulevard. A woman told officers she was sideswiped by a vehicle. The officer suspected the woman was lying and asked to speak to DeSantis about the accident. DeSantis told police he was drinking on Third Street and merging onto Niagara Falls Boulevard from Packard Road when a vehicle struck him, causing him to swerve and strike a strike and a road sign. Officers said it didn’t appear there was another vehicle involved in the accident. DeSantis, who appeared to be intoxicated, refused field sobriety tests. “I’m drunk. I should not have been driving. I made a mistake. I’m drunk,” he said to police. DeSantis was charged with DWI, unreasonable speed and leaving the scene of an accident.

• GRAND LARCENY: A woman reported to police on Saturday that she was the victim of identity theft. On Jan. 20, the woman received a call from her financial institution, informing her of charges on her card. There was a $777 bill from shopping online at walmart.com, a $57 Burger King bill, a $9 Tim Hortons bill. Also there was deductions from her account for $36 in gasoline and $141 in merchandise from Randy’s Smoke Shop. Bank officials said an attempt to withdraw $300 from the account was denied.

• GRAND LARCENY: A 24th Street business owner told police a suspect cut the chain-link fence and removed six car transmissions from his business. The fence damage was listed at $300 and the transmissions were valued at $2,100.

• BURGLARY: Between 8 p.m. Friday and 6 a.m. Saturday, a residence in the 1800 block of Linwood Avenue was burglarized. The victim said the kitchen window was broken. A 50-inch Sony television, two 26-inch Vizio televisions, a Wii game system and a PlayStation3 were taken. The value of the items was listed at $2,100.

• BURGLARY: About $3,300 in items were taken from a home between 7 and 11:30 p.m. Friday in the 3200 block of Ninth Street. The victim said a Sony television, iPod touch and Xbox were taken.

• EXPOSURE: Marco Joseph Gray, 29, 442 Ninth St., Apt. 2, was charged at 12:05 a.m. Saturday with exposure of a person. Police reports said he was urinating on a sidewalk in the 600 block of Niagara Street.

City of Lockport

• DRUGS: Robert T. Brant, 29, 1410 Robinson Court, Niagara Falls, was charged Friday with third-degree sale of a controlled substance and fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance. Brant was arrested after allegedly selling a quantity of a white powdery substance to a police undercover agent at 3:42 p.m. Friday on Niagara Street. Police said the powder field-tested positive for cocaine.
