Regional police probe Falls home invasion

Niagara Regional Police are looking for help from the public in finding a vehicle and suspects involved in a home invasion in Niagara Falls, Ontario, on Wednesday afternoon.

Investigators say two men forced their way into a home in the Barker and Franklin streets area of the Falls. The home was occupied by an 80-year-old woman.

The suspects tied up the victim and ransacked the home. The suspects took a number of items from the home before fleeing the house on foot.

They were last seen running north bound through backyards in the area. The victim was not injured during the robbery.

The first suspect is described as a white male, 30 to 35, 5 feet 5 inches tall, with a heavy build,. He had short dark hair and was wearing dark clothing.

A second suspect is described as a white male, 30 to 35, 6 feet tall, with a thin build. This suspect was wearing a hoodie to partially conceal his identity.

Investigators say they don’t believe the home invasion was a random act.

Police also believe the suspects used a 2007 to 2009 Chevrolet Avalanche, dark blue or black in color, as their getaway vehicle. Investigators said the vehicle may have been parked in the area of the Shoppers Drug Mart and Niagara Factory Shoe outlet store near the intersection of Lundys Lane and Franklin Street, between 1:30 and 2:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Ontario man charged with assault

Niagara Regional Police have arrested a man in connection with an assault that occurred during the early morning hours of Dec. 6 outside a Niagara Falls, Ontario, nightclub.

Mehdi Mohsenabadi, of Richmond Hill, Ontario, is charged with one count of aggravated assault.

Police responded to The Dragonfly Night Club at 6380 Fallsview Blvd., around 2 a.m., for a report of an unconscious man. The victim had been attacked and suffered severe injuries.

• ARREST: A Falls woman was arrested after she was stopped in a known drug area. Miranda Wass, 30, 547 19th St., lower, was charged with first-degree loitering. Police said Wass was flagging down cars in the area of 19th Street and Ferry Avenue at 5:45 p.m. Thursday. She also had a crack pipe in her possession.

• ARRESTS: Two women were arrested after a shoplifting incident at a store in the 1500 block of Military Road on Thursday afternoon. Diane M. Hennessy, 38, 4600 Hyde Park Blvd., Apt. 34, and Amanda L. Lennox, 20, 449 Englewood Ave., Tonawanda, were each charged with petit larceny. They are accused of more than $136 worth of merchandise without paying for it.

• BURGLARY: Police are investigating a burglary in the 200 block of Pine Avenue. A 32-year-old woman told officers sometime between 12:35 p.m. Wednesday and 10:45 a.m. Thursday, someone broke into her apartment by kicking in a door. The victim said $150 in change was taken.

• BURGLARY: Officers are looking into a burglary in the 200 block of Lockport Street. A 38-year-old woman told police sometime between 11 p.m. Wednesday and 11:45 a.m. Thursday, someone broke into her home by kicking in the side door. The victim said a washer and dryer and a quantity of copper pipe was taken.

• ARREST: A Falls woman was arrested after a shoplifting incident at a store in the 1500 block of Military Road on Thursday afternoon. Christine Cooper, 18, 599 Spruce Ave., Apt. 1, was charged with petit larceny. She is accused of taking more than $58 worth of merchandise without paying for it.

• BURGLARY: An Old Shawnee Road man reportedly told deputies Wednesday night that someone broke into his shed and stole a bike valued at $220.

NORTH TONAWANDA

• HARASSMENT: Robert J. Miller, 31, 495 River Road, Apt. 2, was arrested Wednesday for first-degree criminal contempt, second-degree unlawful imprisonment and second-degree harassment. He is being held in lieu of $500 bail.
