Woman swept over falls

Niagara Regional Police and Niagara Parks police are looking into an incident that saw a woman swept over the Horseshoe Falls Tuesday afternoon.

Police said they received reports, around 4:30 p.m., that tourists had spotted a woman in the rapids above the Falls in the area of Dufferin Islands. A short time later, the woman was observed by numerous tourists going over the Horseshoe Falls.

The woman’s body was later recovered from the lower river. The identity of the woman has not yet been determined.

Man OK after car fire

A fire early Saturday morning caused thousands of dollars in damages to a Niagara Falls man’s 1995 Saturn

A report from the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were dispatched to 4935 Lockport Road for a vehicle fire. Upon arrival, they found a vehicle westbound parked on the shoulder of the road with fire coming from under the hood with the driver and a witness close by.

The driver told deputies he was driving on Lockport Road when he heard “popping” noises coming from under the hood of the vehicle. The vehicle stalled and the driver said he went to start his vehicle again, but it caught on fire.

No one was reported injured.



Niagara Falls

• ASSAULT: Police are investigating an assault in the 2000 block of Woodlawn Avenue. A 43-year-old man told officers he was holding a holiday party in his backyard at 10:30 p.m. Monday when he was confronted by a woman who lives next door, complaining about the noise. The victim said she took a walk and was returning to her home when she attacked him. Officers said the victim claimed she was punched repeatedly and knocked to the ground.

n THEFT: Officers are looking into a theft in the 2200 block of Pierce Avenue. A 48-year-old woman told police sometime between 3 p.m. Friday and 8 p.m. Monday, someone broke into her garage by breaking a lock on a door. The victim said a lawn mower and weed-eater were taken.

• ARREST: A Falls man was arrested about 1:30 p.m. Monday after a shoplifting incident at a store in the 700 block of Builders Way. John Matthew Negast, 47, 1531 97th St., was charged with petit larceny. Negast is accused of taking two combo tool kits without paying for them.

• BURGLARY: Police are investigating a burglary at a store in the 7800 block of Niagara Falls Boulevard. A store manager told officers sometime between 4:15 p.m. Friday and 6:43 a.m. Monday someone forced open a rear door to the business. The manager said a floor safe was taken.

• ARREST: A Falls man was arrested after an incident at Seneca Niagara Casino at 10:52 p.m. Sunday. David Gerald Grimaldi, 43, 1508 Tuscorora Road, was charged with disorderly conduct, trespass and second-degree obstructing governmental administration. Grimaldi was reportedly intoxicated and refused to the leave the casino after being told to do so by security officers there.

Ransomville

• HARASSMENT: A staffer at an assisted living facility on Ransomville Road called deputies Tuesday to report she and other female members of the staff are being sexually harassed by a resident. On Tuesday, the staffer said she went into the resident’s room and asked if he was ready for a bath and he responded, “with you in it.” The man in question is a Buffalo psychiatric patient who suffers from dementia and other psychiatric problems. Deputies spoke with him about harassing female staffers.

Wilson

• DWI: Joshua A. Cubello, 31, 4380 Porter Center Road, Lewiston, was charged Tuesday with driving while intoxicated, operating an unregistered motor vehicle on a highway and driving with improper license plates. A report from the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office said deputies pulled Cubello over on Beebe Road near Ide Road after an accident and found Cubello was intoxicated. Cubello registered a blood alcohol content of 0.15 percent. Deputies said Cubello had a previous DWI conviction.

Clarence

• DWI: Christopher F. Carlson, 25, of Lockport, was charged Sunday with driving while intoxicated, aggravated driving while intoxicated and a vehicle violation. A report from state police said troopers responded to Main Street for a report of an intoxicated driver. Upon arrival, Carlson was pulled over and while he was being interviewed, troopers said he appeared intoxicated. He then failed several sobriety tests. Carlson also registered a 0.22 percent blood alcohol content.

City of Tonawanda

• MISCHIEF: Michael J. Dyjewski, 22, of Orchard Park was charged at 8:02 p.m. Monday with criminal mischief at Veterans Park after he drove past multiple signs advising to stay off the grass. According to the report, Dyjewski’s vehicle became stuck in the grass due to the ground’s wet condition. A tow truck had to pull the vehicle back to solid ground. Dyjewski is being held in lieu of $250 bail.
