NIAGARA FALLS — Niagara Falls

• CHARGED: A Sanborn man was issued an appearance ticket for Niagara Falls City Court after being pulled over Friday night and found in possession of 9 grams of marijuana. Officers on patrol issued a traffic stop at 8 p.m. at 27th Street and Grand Avenue after noticing the vehicle was operating without its headlights on. The driver was identified as Carlos E. Ortega, 25, 5226 Townline Road. While questioning Ortega, officers said a strong odor of marijuana was coming from inside the car. Police found three small plastic bags on the vehicle’s floor containing a green plant-like substance that field tested for marijuana. Police said Ortega did not appear to be intoxicated at the time of the traffic stop. He was issued appearance tickets for unlawful possession of marijuana and two traffic violations.

• STOLEN DOG: A woman reported that she believes someone took her 150-pound pitbull from the yard of her home in the 1300 block of Centre Avenue sometime between 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Friday. The dog “Buster” is described as having brindle fur and was wearing a heavy chain-type collar that was attached to another heavy chain and anchored to a fixed post in the ground. Police said the post was still in the ground but the chain and dog were missing. “Buster” was wearing ID tags and has received his rabies shots, the victim said.

• BURGLARY: Police are investigating a reported burglary from a building in the 600 block of Elmwood Avenue. The property manager said that sometime between 8 p.m. Thursday and 12:30 p.m. Friday someone cut through a screen window and stole a furnace and water heater from the basement and a generator from the second floor. Total value of the missing property was estimated at $3,100.

• BURGLARY: A man reported to police that he returned to his home in the 500 block of 22nd Street late Friday and discovered someone had broken a rear door double-pane glass window, valued at $1,500. The victim said he immediately called police in case someone was still inside. Officers searched the home but no suspects were found. Nothing was reported missing at the time of the report. The victim said the window must have been broken sometime between 7 and 11:54 p.m. Friday.

• THEFT: A woman from Stoney Creek, Ont., reported to police that she was drinking at a bar Saturday in the 400 block of Third Street and around 3 a.m. she noticed someone had taken her Liz Claiborne purse, valued at $200. She said the purse also contained $300 in cash, a cell phone valued at $200 and three credit cards. Police noted in the incident report that the victim was intoxicated at the time of the interview.
