Contraband costly for Falls man

An inmate at the Niagara County Jail was hospitalized after he was found hiding two prescription bottles of ambien and tramadol in his buttocks.

Patrick James Dugan, 27, 6922 Walmore Road, Niagara Falls, was charged Wednesday with introducing contraband into prison after he attempted to bring 19 ambien and 24 tramadol pills into jail with him.

A report from the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office said after they found blood and fecal matter in his jail cell, they realized Dugan had the prescription medicine bottles hidden in a body crevice.

Dugan was then transported to Newfane Inter-Community Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Two arrested for shoplifting at Sears

Two Niagara Falls residents were caught by Sears store employees attempting to steal more than $400 in items Wednesday night.

Sarah R. Federspiel, 18, 2533 River Road, and Kevin W. Lentz, 32, 2463 Niagara Ave., were each charged with petit larceny.

A report from the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office said Federspiel attempted to leave the store with $400 worth of perfume and leather gloves.

Shortly later, according to a store employee, Lentz was seen putting five pairs of gloves down his pants and attempt to leave the store.

Both parties were apprehended and are scheduled for court 6 p.m. Tuesday.



Niagara Falls

• BURGLARY: Police are investigating a burglary on the 2400 block of Mackenna Avenue. A 46-year-old woman told officers sometime between 9:30 a.m. and 2:47 p.m. Thursday, someone broke into her home by cutting a screen off a kitchen window. The victim said an Xbox game system, a PlayStation3 game system, some video games, an iPod, a laptop computer, some shoes and clothes were taken.

• ARREST: A Falls man was arrested after an assault in the 2200 block of Falls Street. Dartanyon Robinson, 40, 2226 Falls St. Apt. 5, was charged with third-degree assault, second-degree harassment and second-degree obstructing governmental administration. He is accused of attacking a woman in his home at 1:39 p.m. Thursday.

Lewiston

• DWI: James F. Benton, 52, 122 Cramer St., Apt. B, North Tonawanda, was charged Monday with drinking alcohol in a motor vehicle on a highway and driving while ability impaired by alcohol. A report said Niagara County Sheriff’s deputies stopped Benton on Black Nose Springs Road where numerous vehicle thefts have occurred and found he was intoxicated. Deputies said Benton registered a 0.09 percent alcohol content and found an open beer car in his vehicle.
