School board member’s son caught with drugs
The son of Newfane School Board member Donna Pieszala was charged Thursday after Niagara County Sheriff’s deputies found marijuana in his vehicle.
Newfane Senior High School student Steven M. Sweet, 16, 6643 Heather Drive, Lockport, was charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of marijuana.
The Sheriff’s Department released the report Friday, which said deputies were informed by a Newfane Senior High School principal that Sweet had a large amount of drugs in his vehicle parked in the school parking lot.
The principal said he received the information from another individual, according to the report.
A plastic bag containing a large amount of green leafy substance and another plastic bag with a very small amount of a green seed-like substance, a brown marijuana pipe, and a black and silver knife were found in Sweet’s vehicle after a search, deputies said.
Sweet was issued an appearance ticket and will face his charge at the Town of Newfane Court Jan. 19.
Sweet received a five day out-of-school suspension from the high school as well, the report said.
