Fort Erie man charged in killing

Niagara Regional Police have charged a Fort Erie, Ontario, man in connection with the murder of a Niagara Falls man in October.

Robert Hope, aka Robert Monture, 23, was charged with second-degree murder Wednesday.

He’s accused in the slaying of Tyrone Jason Johnston, 31, of Niagara Falls. Johnston’s body was discovered Oct. 4, after police responded to a call of gunshots heard by residents in the area of a townhouse complex in the 5500 block of Drummond Road.



Suspect sought in restaurant robbery

Niagara Regional Police are seeking a suspect n the robbery of a restaurant in the 5100 block of Victoria Avenue in Niagara Falls on Thursday.

Investigators say a man entered Niko’s Place Restaurant at 6:45 p.m. and approached the on duty staff member, brandished a knife and demanded money. The employee gave the man an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register and the suspect fled

The suspect is described as white, 5 feet 8 inches tall with a muscular build and a raspy voice. He was wearing a dark ski mask and a dark blue pull over jacket.

Niagara Falls

• ASSAULT: Police are looking for three suspects in connection with an assault in the 800 block of 27th Street. A 17-year-old boy told officers he was riding his bike at 4:15 p.m. Friday, when a car cut him off and three men got out and approached him. One of the suspects hit the victim with an unknown object, knocking him from his bike. All three suspects then repeatedly punched and kicked the victim before getting back in the car and driving away. The victim suffered multiple cuts and bruises.

• BURGLARY: Officers are looking into a burglary in the 2100 block of North Avenue. A 44-year-old woman told police sometime between 11 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. Friday, someone broke into her home by breaking a side window. The victim said a fur coat, a TV, a camcorder and a necklace were taken.

• BURGLARY: Police are investigating a burglary in the 1800 block of North Avenue. A 21-year-old man told officers he came home at 9 a.m. Friday and found someone had broken into his house by breaking a kitchen window. The victim said two TVs and some x-box games were taken.

• ASSAULT: A Falls man was charged after he fought with officers who were arresting him on an outstanding warrant. Aaron Peter Grant Strager, 29, 2260 Grand Ave., Apt. 1, was charged with resisting arrest. He was taken into custody in the 700 block of Third Street at 10:40 a.m. Friday.
