Deputy injured responding to fire
Niagara County Sheriffs Deputy Ray Needle suffered a broken leg while responding to a fire on Sunset Island at 2:13 a.m. Friday, according to reports.
Needle reportedly slipped on wooden stairs, fell and broke his left leg at the site of a fire at the residence of Robert and Barbara Dobosz. The owners of the house doused the fire with water, extinguished the flames and removed a charred couch from the home, according to reports. The homeowners suffered minor burns to their hands and arms and were treated for injuries at the scene.
Needle was taken to Eastern Niagara Hospital-Newfane for treatment.
Wilson Fire Company officials said the fire broke out when flames from a fireplace stove ignited the couch. There was smoke and fire damage throughout the home, according to reports.
