“Borrowed” vehicle found abandoned after chase

A Niagara County Sheriff’s deputy said he was on routine patrol in the area of Centre Avenue and 21st Street about 12:30 p.m. Feb. 22 when he spotted a passenger in a car not wearing a seat belt.
When the driver of the car noticed the deputy, he accelerated up Centre Avenue, traveling about 70 to 80 mph as it ran a stop sign at Aaron Griffin Way. After briefly losing sight of the car, it was found abandoned on the 1100 block of Garden Avenue. A witness said two men fled from the car and ran toward Highland Avenue.
The deputy contacted the son of the owner of the vehicle, a Ransomville man, who told the deputy he had lent the car out to a man on Fifth Street that morning in exchange for crack cocaine.
The deputy caught up with the car’s borrower on Thursday outside of family court in the Falls. He told the deputy he had given the Ransomville man $20 and returned the car two hours later. He added that “mad people” borrow the car. The deputy advised the borrower’s probation officer of the situation.
