For the second time in three nights, the Niagara Power held the lead heading into the ninth inning but came away with the loss.
The Brockport Riverbats scored twice in the bottom of the ninth to beat visiting Niagara 5-4 in Sunday’s New York Collegiate Baseball tilt.
“Anthony Cimabue pitched well enough to win, unfortunately our bullpen let us down for the second time in three days,” Power coach Sam Kirby said. “We just have to be better in that closing role.”
Cimabue pitched deep into the seventh, allowing seven hits and three earned runs.
The Power belted two home runs over the left field fence on the Brockport State campus. Andy Ahrendt hit one in the fifth, and Bobby Harper hit one in the sixth.
Ahrendt also had a double, and scored two runs. Jacan Warren had an RBI.
“We came in and we were aggressive and swung at pitches over the plate,” Kirby said.
This is the Power’s third straight loss. On Friday, they gave up two runs in the bottom of the ninth to lose 6-5 at Alfred. On Saturday at Sal Maglie Stadium, they lost 16-2 to Elmira.
Niagara was 3.5 games out of the final playoff spot in the NYCBL West division heading into Sunday’s game. They are off today, and host Geneva at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
