Lakewomen top Medina, get showdown with Eden

The Wilson girls volleyball team, the second-seed in Class C, won a tough four-set match against No. 10 Medina on Wednesday, 25-23, 23-25, 25-15 and 25-23. Their reward: hosting No. 3 Eden, last year's New York State Class C Champion.

Setter Lindsay Bryer led the way against Medina, racking up 38 assists, eight digs and four kills. Jordan Glosser added 18 kills and five digs, and Kristin Sampson had eight kills and six blocks, including blocks for the final two points in the win. Marcella Walck added six digs for the Lakewomen, while Alba Perez led Medina with five kills.

Wilson (15-1) will host Eden at 6 p.m. today in the Class C Semifinals.

4-Sweet Home 3, 5-Nia.-Wheatfield 0

Katie Mazierski had 13 digs, 10 kills and two aces and Kelsey Yeates had 11 assists, four digs and a kill as the Falcons (11-7) ended their season with a 17-25, 10-25, 23-25 Class A Quarterfinal loss.

2-Grand Island 3, 10-Will. South 1

Al Brown had 19 kills and eight digs and Lindsay Proctor had 18 digs and three aces as the Vikings moved on to the Class A Semifinals with the 23-25, 25-15, 25-19, 25-21 win. Ciara Alcorn had 10 digs and Alex London chipped in nine kills for GI, which will host a semifinal match at 5 p.m. Friday.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Division II Qualifiers

14-Starpoint 3, 19-W. Sen. East 0

Dan Joseph had 11 kills and Brett Kane added 16 assists for the Spartans (8-10) in the 25-23, 25-16, 28-26 win. It was the first time Starpoint had hosted a home playoff game, as well as its first Sectional win in the program's four-year history. The Spartans travel to face No. 3 Lake Shore in today's pre-quarterfinals.

13-Nia.-Wheatfield 3, 20-East Aurora 0

Austin Hayes had eight aces and 17 assists and Dylan Cobernus added five kills for the Falcons (7-10) in the 25-18, 25-9, 25-10 Division II qualifying round win. N-W advances to play at No. 4 Kenmore East in today's pre-quarterfinals.

BOYS SOCCER

2-Lockport 1, 3-Orchard Park 0

Mike Ford scored the game's lone goal and goaltender Bailey Reid earned an 11-save shutout for the Lions (18-0), who advance to the Section VI Class AA final at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Hamburg.

1-Clarence 1, 5-Nia.-Wheatfield 0

The Red Devils, ranked No. 2 in New York at No. 17 across the nation, scored in the 25th minute, which was enough to get past the Falcons in the Class AA Semifinals. Tom ModicaAmore made 11 saves for N-W, which put eight shots on net in the comeback effort in the second half.
