The Lewiston-Porter wrestling team protected its home turf on Saturday, winning the Section VI Class B wrestling crown on its own mats.
Lew-Port scored 259 points on Saturday, taking first place in front of Pioneer’s grapplers, who had 189.5 points.
Nathan Nashwinter (99-pounds), Brandon Dallavia (132), Dan Reagan (138), Jason Kromer (152), Chet Bondi (220) and Kevin McMurray (285) each won their respective weight classes for the Lancers. Ryan Kromer (113) and Jon Bondi (220) placed second.
Tonawanda placed fourth at the Class B meet with 139 points on day. Cody McGregor won the 113-pound class for the Warriors, picking up his 97th career win in the finals. Jake Choate (145) and Steve Warthling (182) each placed second, while Tim Barnard (126) and Patrick Kpaka (195) finished third.
Newfane’s Max Russell placed first in the 195-pound class, while Steve Lakes (160) took top honors as well. Jason Jolley finished second in the 126-pound class as the Warriors placed fifth as a team with 138 points.
The Class AA meet in Jamestown saw plenty of Niagara Frontier League wrestlers fare well. Kenmore West (207 points) finished second behind Clarence’s 227.5 but saw three wrestlers crowned champions.
Ron Dugay (113), Dylan Caruana (126) and Brandon Lathrop (285) each won their weight classes, while Shane Currey (170) and Nico Burgos (220) finished second.
Lockport finished third as a team with 202 points, while Anthony Orefice won the 106-pound weight class and Jose Pagan placed first at 145. Brad Feeney (126) and Mike Feeney (138) were both runners-up.
Niagara Falls (fifth, 145.5 points) had Joe DiFrancesco (170) and DeQuan Ralands (182) each take first place, while Donny McCoy (99), Andrew Shomers (106) and Jemone Carter (113) each placed second.
Sixth place went to Niagara-Wheatfield (137), who got wins from reigning Section VI champs Jake Kelly (195) and Max Antone (220), while Derrick Printup finished second at 145.
Marcus Popp (126) and Ricky Schweichard (132) each finished third, while N-W freshman Dan Cicco finished fourth at 170.
North Tonawanda finished 12th as a team with 27 points.
In the Class A tournament at Starpoint, Grand Island’s Wesley Haynie finished second in the 170-pound class, while Starpoint’s Rion Elson placed second in the 285-pound event. Grand Island (115.5) finished fifth, while Starpoint (67) finished 10th and Ken East (35) finished 11th.
