HS WRESTLING: Lew-Port captures GI Duals
Staff report — A thrilling comeback victory over Niagara Frontier League rival Grand Island in the championship match helped Lewiston-Porter earn its first tournament win since 1994. Lew-Port is now 6-0 on the season after sweeping five dual meets Saturday at the annual event at GIHS.
In the title match, Lew-Port trailed GI 34-31 going into the final two bouts. Then Peter Cianchetti earned a pin at 160 and Tom Patti sealed the deal with a 7-2 win at 171. The final was 40-34.
The Lancers had three wrestlers go 5-0 on the day — Dan Reagan at 119, Joe Hill at 189 and Bashar Srouji at 215. Four others — Ryan Kromer (96), Joe Melcher (112), Patti (171) and Kevin McMurray (275) — went 4-1.
Lew-Port beat Medina, Amherst, Williamsville North, Depew and Gi on their way to the title. The Lancers are one victory away from matching last season’s win total.
N-W third at Webster tourney
Angelo Malvestuto (189) claimed his fourth consecutive championship at the Matthew Marino Memorial Tournament at Webster Schroeder. Jim Donner (285) won his second consecutive crown and Marcus Popp was the champion at 96. The trio helped the Falcons finish third at the event, behind Union Endicott and Phoenix.
Also for N-W, Anthony Tardibuono was third, Jake Kelly and Adam Donner took fourth and Antonio Ventry was fifth.

Divisional Meet
Several Niagara Falls student-athletes took first place and set new school records at the Buffalo State College Sports Arena late Friday. Durelle Crittenden won the 55-meter hurdles in 8.39 seconds, a new school record. Jazlyn Porter was first and set a new school record in the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, eight inches.
Cordell Johnson (300, 38.8), Donald Panell (long jump, 19-11 3/4) and Brandon Joyce (high jump, 5-10) also took first place in their events. Adam Zaczek (1,000, 2:57), Crystal Hailey (1,500, 5:47.5) and Johnson (600, 1:32.6) set new school marks.
At the Lancaster Field Event Invitational, Joyce set a new school record and took first place in the high jump with a leap of six feet.

Bleumink leads Porter Cup after first-round 64
LEWISTON — Luke Bleumink weathered the wind and beat the rain to take a one-shot lead on the opening day of the 52nd Porter Cup at Niagara Falls Country Club.
Bleumink, 25, an Australian playing here for the third year in a row, shot a 6-under-par 64 on Wednesday highlighted by an eagle on the third hole.

Marc Spears of Yahoo! Sports said via Twitter on Monday night that Flynn will likely miss three to four months due to a hip problem that will require surgery.

Petrosian, locals excited about Cup
When Matt Petrosian got the call — the one he’d dreamed about as a little kid growing up just below the hill in Lewiston — he was standing, appropriately enough, in a golf course pro shop.
The Lewiston-Porter graduate works at nearby Niagara Frontier Country Club in Youngstown and when Marty Shimmel of the Porter Cup organizing committee called to see if Petrosian might be interested in participating in this week’s tournament, he got an emotional reaction.
