The Niagara-Wheatfield boys swimming team finished its undefeated season with a Niagara Frontier League championship on Saturday at a warm North Tonawanda High School pool.
The Falcons (14-0 NFL) notched 230 points in the two-day event to top Lockport (211.5) and win the NFL crown.
N-W’s Josh Miller was a double-winner at the meet, winning the 200-meter individual medley with a 2:09.37 and the 100-meter backstroke in 55.74 seconds. Miller also helped the Falcons win the 200 medley relay in 1:45.63 along with Dan Peltier, Edwin Patterson and Dan Zendano.
Kenmore West’s Kody Kopack also won a pair of events, including the 100 fly (54.70) and 500 free (5:11.86).
Lewiston-Porter senior Eric Ebert, meanwhile, touched first in the 100 free (49.06) and 200 free (1:49.59) for the Lancers, while contributing on the 200 free relay-winning squad along with Kyle Bullis, Collin Kemeny and Mitch Sembert.
In the most exciting event of the day, Lockport’s team of Derek Secord, Andrew Wojcinski, Mike Stroud and Garrett Sheehan edged Lew-Port in the 400 free relay. Lockport (3:25.32) slipped past the Lancers (3:25.51) team of Sembert, Kemeny, Bulis and Ebert, while the other six teams finished more than 10 seconds off the pace.
Liam Jones of Kenmore East won the 50 free in 22.64 in an upset over the Lions’ Sheehan on Saturday, while Grand Island senior Seth Carey won the 100 breast (1:05.41).
Austin Devlin of Niagara Falls won the diving portion with 489.10 points on Friday.
Niagara Falls, who won last year’s NFL championships, finished third with 165 points. Ken West (164), North Tonawanda (152), Lew-Port (149.5), Ken East (140) and Grand Island (123) finished out the team scoring.
