With a big playoff push creating a hockey stir, many expected numbers for last weekend’s SabreFest to be up.
But 3,000 people? In the middle of August?
“It was crazy,” said Kevin Snow, a spokesman for the team. “We knew interest was high, but...”
Snow estimated that about 3,000 people were at the festival. He added that the youth hockey tournament that was part of the festival drew 160 teams, well up from last year’s mark of 110 teams.
“And we had to cap it a week before it started,” he said. “We had people calling the day before asking if they get a team in and we had to say we were sorry.”
