Niagara Falls boxer James Ventry dropped a six-round majority decision to Carlos Horatio Nevarez in a light welterweight bout late Thursday at the Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino.
According to published reports, Nevarez (14-16-1, 5 KOs) had a big punch advantage in the early rounds before Ventry (6-5-1, 4 KOs) began to close the gap in the later rounds. Two judges scored the fight 58-56 with a third ruling it even 57-57.
Recently, Ventry said he’d like to be included on a potential card at the Seneca Niagara Casino this fall, but that his first priority is fighting out his contract with promoter Christian Printup, a Falls native. He is currently on a deal that calls for him to fight every other month at the Tachi Palace.
