Staff Report
Senior Sam Wilber scored on a pass from Tiegan Monteleone with 12 minutes left to give the Lewiston-Porter girls soccer team a 3-2 win over Niagara-Wheatfield in Niagara Frontier League action at Elia Stadium.
It was the first career varsity win for coach Dave Sicoli. Also for Lew-Port (1-0 overall, 1-0 NFL), Amy Roemer scored on a pass from Jenna Van Dusen and Emma Besaw scored on a penalty kick. Lindsay Carr made 12 saves in net to get the win. Sara Nearhoff and Jaimie Popp scored for the Falcons (0-1-1, 0-1), who got 16 saves from goalkeeper Christina Ventresca.
N. Tonawanda 3, Lockport 2
Softball standout Julie Harmon scored the game-winner with 10 minutes remaining to give the Lady Jacks the NFL win. Just five minutes earlier, Colleen Wiechec scored her second goal of the game to even the score at two. Also for NT (2-0 overall, 1-0 NFL), Amanda Smyth assisted on both on tying ande winning goals.
Codi Hall and Kaitland Murphy scored for the Lady Lions (0-1, 0-1). Brittany Watson helped apply the pressure while Christa Campbell was outstanding in the nets in a losing effort. Jessica West also played well at sweeper.
Boys Soccer
Lockport 3, North Tonawanda 1
Junior Matt McCoy netted two goals for the Lions in their Niagara Frontier League opener. Angelo DiMillo also scored, while Jim May had the lone assist for LHS (1-1 overall, 1-0 NFL). Andrew Wackenheim scored on a pass from Jon Clark for the Lumberjacks (0-1 NFL).
N-Wheatfield 2, Cheektowaga 2
Vinnie Zuccari scored both goals for N-W in a non-league tie. Also for the Falcons (0-0-1 overall), Sam Abate had both assists and Derek Kratts was stellar defensively. The Warriors (0-0-1) got goals from Derek Andrews and Ben Hennel.
Grand Island 7, Sweet Home 1
Shaun Winter had two goals and two assists as the Vikings rolled in non-league action. Bobby Ross had a pair of goals and an assist, Jordan and Christian Gibson each added a goal and an assist, Anthony Grande also scored and Kolby Banker chipped in with three assists. Also for GI (1-1-0 overall), Jeremy Figler made 12 saves in net. Matt Cuddihy scored for the Panthers (0-2-1).

Ty Smarpat scored twice and Brendan Doherty also netted a tally in a non-league win. No additional information was provided.

Delaney Laper tallied nine kills, eight aces and five digs to lead the Lady Jacks to the non-league win, 25-14, 25-10, 22-25, 25-16. Sarah Hansen added eight kills and five digs for NT (1-0 overall), and Joanna Fretthold finished with six kills, five digs and two blocks. The Lakewomen (0-1) were led by Lindsay Bryer’s four kills, nine assists and four aces. Jessica Curry added five kills and a pair of blocks.
Depew 3, N. Catholic 0
Erica Caso was 5-for-6 serving and had two blocks for Niagara Catholic, but the Patriots fell in non-league action to Depew, 25-17, 25-14, 25-16. Cory Catanese was 2-for-3 serving with two digs for NC (0-1 overall) and Jolene Lambert was 7-for-8 serving, along with one block and a dig. The Wildcats (1-0) were led by strong play from Kelsey Sharpe, Michelle Greene and Leeann Schroeder.

The Lady Lions won their secoind straight non-league match, blanking the host Lady Rams by scores of 25-18, 25-23 and 25-23. Top performers for Lockport (2-0 overall) were Lea Sobieraski with 10 kills and Erin Miller with seven kills. No information was provided for Roy-Hart (0-1).

The Falcons fell in their non-league opener, 25-16, 26-24, 25-13. N-W fell to 0-1, while the Indians moved to 1-0. No other information was available.

The host Lakewomen (0-0-1 N-O) got goals from Raela Wiley and Anjolie Plante in their Niagara-Orleans League opener, which ended in a tie. The Lady Panthers (0-0-1) countered with goals from Catie Matalavage and Molly Coakley, both off assists from Emily Flagler.

Alyssa Hare scored what proved to be the game-winning goal for the host Lady Raiders with 11:52 to go in the first half of the N-O opener. Crystal Mott then doubled the Barker (1-0 N-O) lead when she found the net with just 1:20 to go in the first half. Rebecca Quackenbush rounded out the Barker scoring with a goal three minutes into the second half. Rachel Anderson made five saves to earn the shutout in goal. Roy-Hart dropped to 0-1.
Akron 7, Ken East 0
Kierstyn Sturmer scored four goals to lead the attack for Akron which also got tallies from Anna Frey, Becky Hopkins and Nicole Macello in the N-O win. Shannon Winney earned the shutout in goal for the Lady Tigers (1-0 N-O). The Bulldogs fell to 0-1.

Tricia Glass scored a hat trick for the Mustangs (1-0 N-O) in the N-O win. Medina also got tallies from Bailey Colonna, Bailey Hartway and Emily Crossett. Cassie Lyons earned the shutout in goal. West fell to 0-1.
