The playoffs are already certain, but the Buffalo Bandits insist there’s more they want to accomplish during the National Lacrosse League’s regular season.
That said, there’s plenty they can do this weekend with back-to-back games that could sew up the East Division crown with a pair of wins.
Buffalo hosts Rochester tonight, needing just a single win to capture at least second place in the division. But if Buffalo wins on Saturday at New York, the Bandits will claim the division’s top spot and home field until the finals.
John Tavares certainly is playing his best lacrosse at the right time. The veteran forward scored six goals in last week’s 15-11 victory over Boston and was named the NLL overall player of the week. He stands second in the league in scoring with 42 goals. Only teammate Mark Steenhuis has more with 45.
As for Rochester, the Knighthawks are led by Shawn Evans, who has 28 goals and 43 assists for 71 points. Teammate Shawn Williams has 78 points, including 24 goals.
