There’s one K in Kelly, but no Ks in the scorebook.
The NCAA recently announced that Niagara Falls native Kelly Goodwin was the hardest player to srikeout in all of Division III softball this past season.
Goodwin started all 37 games for Hilbert College as a senior. She had 106 at-bats without a strikeout, tying her with Caitlin Elfring from Franklin and Marshall College for the national lead.
“Kelly was our No. 4 batter in the lineup not because she had long ball power but because she could always put the ball in play somewhere on the field,” said Kerry Levett, who coached Hilbert for the first three years of Goodwin’s career.
This is the first time a Hilbert athlete has finished atop the national rankings in a statistical category.
Goodwin was also the starting soccer goalkeeper for four years at Hilbert, and played two seasons for the basketball team. Prior to that, she spent her winters as the Hilbert’s hawk mascot.
The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference gave Goodwin the Sportmanship Award after both the basketball and softball seasons this year.
Goodwin graduated in May with a degree in psychology and a cumulative grade-point average of 3.40.
